need to be walked, they’re really quiet animals, if spayed and neutered they can live 8-12 years and can even use the litter box. They’re very similar to having a cat.” Rabbit House Society was founded in 1988 in Alameda and has grown to 32 chapters, four of which are international. “Collectively we’re the largest rabbit rescue in the United States,” says Martin. “We are a privately funded 501(c)(3) nonprofit. All revenue comes from donations from people that love rabbits.” ADOPT: All rabbits come spayed, neutered and litter-box trained. It is a 2-day adoption process. You can come in to check out the rabbits, if there’s one you like you can sit down and get to know it in a puppy exercise pen. There’s a half-hour adoption video to let you know what to expect with owning a rabbit (most importantly: protect any cables in your home). If you find the rabbit of your dreams you can fill out an application and they’ll set a date for you to pick up your new roomate.
