restaurant review 1473 FITZgerALD DrIVe, SuITe 102 In PInOLe | (510) 223-7427 | SAMPLer PLATTer Dickey’s Barbecue Pit Fast Casual Dining Brings Southern BBQ to Pinole In an area where there are multiples of the same fast food establishments within a 10 mile radius, such as McDonalds, Subway, Taco Bell, and Jack-in-the-Box, there is a fast casual dining restaurant in Pinole that offers tasty alternatives to those looking for something a bit different. Dickey’s Barbecue Pit, which opened in Pinole in April 2014, offers diners authentic southern barbeque options that have been popular since the company was founded in Dallas in 1941 by Travis Dickey. For many years, Dickey’s Barbecue was only available in Texas, and was also the largest caterer in the state. The company began to offer franchises in 1994, and is slowly expanding, “one restaurant at a time.” At this time, there are only 500 Dickey’s Barbecue Pit locations in 40 states nationwide. DIckeyS.cOM by vickie lewis Tony and Sherry LoForte, experienced restaurateurs who have owned and operated Zio Fraedo’s waterfront restaurant in Vallejo for the last 10 years, became Dickey’s franchisees with the opening of the Pinole location last year. In October 2014, they also acquired the Pleasant Hill location of Dickey’s, and within the next six months, are planning to open a third location in Vallejo. Franchising Dickey’s Barbecue Pit was a way to expand their business holdings without the complexities of establishing another fullservice, fine dining restaurant. After trying Dickey’s menu, loving the food, and learning of the excellent franchising opportunities, the LoFortes decided that opening Dickey’s would be a great business opportunity that would give local patrons a new fast dining option.
