This is a follow-up to a story we ran last year, and since that time, the Trekkers have continued to make progress in turning the hills above El Cerrito into a day-hikers mecca. Deborah ludlow Stevens I’ve really come to appreciate the trails here, one minute in a quiet canyon feeling like I’m far from the city, the next minute enjoying beautiful views of the East Bay flatlands, Mt. Tam and the Golden Gate Bridge. Summer is here, and this is a great place to stretch your legs. On the way home, you may want to visit some of the businesses participating in the “El Cerrito Roundup.” Thank you for reading Marketplace. Deborah I met recently with Beth Javens, Executive Director of the Richmond Convention and Visitors Bureau, to talk about a special “Destination Richmond” section planned for our October 2015 issue. “It’s too bad that we have to wait for October,” Beth commented. “Everything is happening in June!” A look at the schedule confirmed what she said, and we shifted gears quickly. You will find “Destination Richmond” starting on page 54 of this issue. Indeed, June is a month of many excellent public events in Richmond, but I was further impressed by how much is going on throughout the summer, and throughout the year, in West County’s largest city. Once again, we are reminded there is no need to travel far from home to find a place to celebrate.
