Contra Costa Marketplace - July 2015

Deb’s Dialog Editor’s Notes july 2015 MARKETPLACEcontrac osta .com 7 For many of us, July is time for vacations – jumping in the car, or onto a plane, and heading off to distant places to relax or spend time with friends. In recent years, however, I’ve discovered that July can also be a good time to stay close to home. The weather is great, we are surrounded by wonderful destinations nearby, and best of all, no lines or long waits! Perhaps the only crowds I’ll see this Deborah ludlow Stevens month are at an Independence Day celebration. West County offers some of the best around. It starts on the 3rd of July at Richmond’s Craneway with fireworks and the Oakland-East Bay Symphony, then continues all day Saturday with festivals in El Cerrito, San Pablo and Hercules. The hard part is figuring out which one to attend. Whatever you decide, have a great holiday. I’ll see you there. And thank you, as always, to our readers and advertisers. Deborah I am especially looking forward to July this year, mostly because it means June will be over. The annual out-of-town guests come in July, so June is when all the home improvements get done that have been put off for the past year. You know how that goes: painted the big bedroom, cleaned up the bathroom tilework, installed paver stones in the backyard, rebuilt the broken down fence, chased the chickens back into John Strohmeier their coop and cleaned up after them, fixed the dishwasher. It was even necessary to join a club and start working out again. What has this got to do with Marketplace? If it weren’t for the people I found in Marketplace who could step in where I needed help, the work would never get finished. So thank you advertisers for supporting Marketplace, and for getting my house ready for guests once again! John
