Drewski’s, where I ordered the “Tricycle”- -Cheddar, Swiss and havarti Cheeses melted on sliced sourdough bread; and my guest ordered the “hemi”, Carolina Grilled Pork, Macaroni & Cheese, Grilled Onions, and Cheddar Cheese, also on sliced sourdough. I loved The Tricycle, because it was not too heavy, and it oozed warm cheese when I bit into it. The three cheese flavors together were awesome! The hemi was a bit much for both of us, and while it was tasty, there was just too much going on in this sandwich. Sans the macaroni & cheese, this may have been a more gratifying choice. For dessert, we headed to the Crème Brulee Cart, which still had customers in line 10 deep when we got in line after 8:00 PM. We ordered ours to go—Dark Chocolate, Salted Caramel, and “The Sweet Southern Lady”, which is vanilla bean crème brulee with pecans and bourbon caramel drizzle—and each flavor proved to be rich, creamy, and delectable! We visited O TG El Cerrito again the following week to discover what new food trucks would be there for the bi-weekly rotation. During this visit, some of the trucks included Koja Kitchen, serving Korean and Japanese foods; Go Streatery, serving interesting Peasant food selections such as Oxtail and Grits; An the Go, featuring Garlic noodles; WhipOut, serving traditional burgers and fries; and several other trucks that hadn’t been there the previous week. The dessert trucks included Johnny’s Doughnuts, and Lexie’s Frozen Custard, featuring an array of different sundaes. On this Wednesday afternoon, the weather was warmer and the crowd was larger than the previous, and continued to grow as the evening progressed. We saw a few repeat customers from the previous week, and experienced the same friendly ambience as before. The food offerings were many and the items we selected to try were awesome, particularly the Kamikaze French Fries from Koja Kitchen, and the delicious Flautas from Canasta Kitchen! In summary, we found Off the Grid to be a venue to which we will return frequently, especially during the summer and fall months when the weather is warm. The clean and pleasant outdoor surroundings, together with the friendly people, the awesome variety of food trucks, and the live music and entertainment, combine to make every OTG visit a different and unique experience.
