Boy Scout Troop 81 The Camping Oriented Troop By Fausto Cuizon, KK6Jnt july 2015 MARKETPLACEcontrac osta .com 31 Troop 81 has been continuously chartered to the Mount Diablo Silverado Council since June of 1971. It has been under the leadership of its present Scoutmaster for 37 years. Now in its 44th year of operation, there have been fifty one scouts who have earned the rank of ‘Eagle Scout’. Our troop consists of a diversified group of young gentlemen who work very well together in achieving the goals of scouting. We are community oriented, doing many service projects including cooking pancakes in late June for the Pinole Seniors and Northern California Cruisers Event and preparing the Pancake Breakfast at the Saint Joseph Church ‘Octoberfest” which is on Sunday of the first weekend in October. Troop 81 is known as a ‘Camping Oriented Troop’. We camp one weekend, most months throughout the year, a one week ‘Structured Boy Scout Summer Camp’ and on many occasions, a Troop ‘Wilderness’ type outing to the Trinity Mountains in Northern California or a place of the scout’s choosing, practicing outdoor skills and preparing for the annual Boy Scouting Competitive Event known as the Herms District Camporee. The Herms District consists of Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops, Sea Scouts and Venture Scout Teams. Our District’s boundaries are along the East Bay from Berkeley in the South to Crockett in the North. Our Goal at Camporee is to give these Boy Scouts a chance to demonstrate how well they have mastered the scouting skills. In the past six years, Troop 81 has won the highest award at Camporee, the ‘Presidential Award’, four times and placed second overall twice. This reflects the quality of its Leaders as well as the camaraderie of the scouts themselves. Troop 81 welcomes new scouts throughout the Pinole, Hercules, El Sobrante, San Pablo and Richmond area. We meet on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 to 8:30pm at the Saint Joseph Catholic Church ‘Parish Hall’ in Pinole. For further information, you may call Charles Braga, Scoutmaster, Troop 81 at (510) 223-0833, or for ours and other troops in our area, you can access the internet, at myscouting.org for more information on local Scouting Units and information on ‘What is Scouting’. Congratulations Troop 81 – the President’s Award at Herms District Camporee 2015 – Lake Berryessa, CA This will be BSA Troop 81’s fourth presidential all district overall award in five years.
