Tashi Delek is a traditional Tibetan greeting, which literally translates to English as “All auspiciousness, happiness, well-being, and peace.” Tashi Dalek may be used to say “hello” or “farewell”, or simply as a greeting to wish the other person “Good Luck”. Well, it seems that good luck had shone down on El Cerrito when Tashi Dalek Restaurant opened there on Thanksgiving Day 2013. Serving Tibetan, Indian, and Nepali Cuisine, Tashi Dalek’s popularity continues to grow as new customers discover this eatery that offers a variety of authentic cuisines. While there are a number of Indian Restaurants in nearby cities, there are fewer Tibetan and Nepalese restaurants in the area. Owners and partners, Pasang Lama and Kunkhen Sherpa, chose to offer traditional favorites TANDOORI TIKKA (MARINATED BONELESS CHICKEN BREAST BROILED IN TANDOORI OvEN) from all three countries to give their customers choices when they visit Tashi Dalek. Pasang and Kunkhen grew up in Nepal, and Tibet, respectively, and they personally prepare all of the Tibeten dishes. The other main chef, Dorjee Sherpa, is a Nepali who specializes in Indian cooking. For those not familiar with the cuisine of Tibet, India, or Nepal, it may not be obvious by merely looking at the menu as to which dishes align with each of the countries. But Pasang and her staff are happy to answer questions about menu selections to assist customers decide what to order.
