Garden of Gems “Refaceted” When my mom decided after 18 years it was time to close her jewelry store I didn’t know how to feel. I was proud of all she had accomplished over the past two decades and grateful for the invaluable knowledge she had passed along to me, but I was also very sad. It was the end of an era. The thought of no longer working with my mom (and best friend really) or in my own community was depressing. With a baby on the way I didn’t want to drive to the city each day and leave my new little boy with a stranger. As the news of the store closing spread, our beloved customers came to us with well wishes and support, but also with a common worry of: “Where will we take our jewelry for repairs now? Who can we trust?” The more I heard these same questions over and over I knew there was an entire community ready to support me if I would just step up and continue where my mom left off. I am over-the-moon excited to have the opportunity to stay in the jewelry industry and to stay in my community of Pinole. When a gem cutter refacets a stone he cuts away all the scratches and damage from a lifetime of wear to reveal a slightly smaller version of the sparkling gem that once existed. This is what I hope to do with Garden of Gems. My new location, at 668 Quinan Street, is smaller than my mom’s shop, and I am getting a new start like a freshly recut gem. My store will offer full jewelry repair and custom design from the same goldsmith and CAD designers as before. I will have a smaller selection of jewelry, but I can special order or create whatever you are looking for. And my jewelry collection will grow over time, featuring estate, bridal, silver & gold and even some original designs.
