GOMES San Pablo’s “Man of the Century” There was a big event on March 25 at the West County Salesian Boys and Girls Club in Richmond. Joe Gomes celebrated his 100th birthday, surrounded by a crowd of friends. Mr. Gomes has a lot to be grateful for, but the city of San Pablo owes him an even greater debt of gratitude for all he has done for his community. Joe was married to his wife Mary for sixty two years and together they had two children, followed by four grandchildren, five great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. He served on the San Pablo City Council for nearly thirty two years and served as Mayor seven times. Joe has served as a longtime board member for the San Pablo Chamber of Commerce, as a director of the Brookside Health Clinic, and on the San Pablo Planning Commission and Housing Authority. Joe is a member of the San Pablo Eagles, Moose Lodge, Exchange Club, and REJECTS Club. He is also a trustee of the West County Salesian Boys & Girls Club.
